Today I got one of the standard “Thankyou for registering with us to shop online” emails. Ok, at least they legitimately obtained my email address as part of the order process.

However, I gave them my address for the purposes of emailing me delivery details… not for generic “Oh, we can send you anything we want, now we have your email legitimately” catch-all. They didn’t even give an opt-out checkbox on their online form, only stating that I would be able to unsubscribe later if I so desired.

In fairness to them, though, they did redeem themselves just this once by making me smile:

<obligatory unsubscribe details>

However, we know you’ll enjoy our emails far too much to even consider that!

At least they tried the personal touch, and were ‘innovative’ about it.

But next time I won’t be smiling… 😉

    Hey, you missed out the best bit of the story – the fact that it was one of these rather amusing contraptions that you bought (scaredy-cat 😉 )

    You’re in good company, though. When I worked as a door-to-door Betterware salesman it is one of my most popular products (along with the knife-sharpener and the banana hook).

    Grr, you!

    Actually, it was one of these… the spider-catcher was just an optional extra, by no means an urgent necessity at all!
